I am naive too.  I use the term sampling kernel for the function that
transfers a source signal into a pixel value.  There is much freedom to
declare what the source is and so what is included in the kernel.

Sorry for being fuzzy.

We can discuss the rest in a different thread since this has escaped the
original ROI discussion.
