As a side note, I did try manually downloading and installing the plugin from
the BIG website[1], even with my copy from Fiji present. It overwrote Fiji's
copy, but the plugin was still available - so I couldn't reproduce the "NOT
INSTALLED" behavior.

If you're able to determine the steps that lead to your plugin being
uninstalled, let us know.. could be a bug in the updater...?
