Have you tried iStat Menus? It adds very useful monitoring widgets to the
system tray. With its CPU usage monitor, you can avoid accidentally draining
your battery due to unexpectedly high CPU usage. Unfortunately, v2 is the
last free version, but you can still find it for download from various
places online.
