Fiji is an image processing software melting ImageJ1 with novel ImageJ2 functionalities based on scijava and imglib2.
The core plugins written in Java, versioned via Maven and distributed via update sites. But update sites can be used to distribute any type of files (e.g. scripts or binaries). ## User perspective [[File:user-updater.png]] - the user downloads packaged Fiji from website - some update sites are enabled by default and will serve all core updates (see [[#list-of-update-sites|update site chapter]]) - each time Fiji is started, these update sites are checked for new content - in case there is new content, the user will be asked to approve the updates

You can access the list of official update sites here: https://imagej.github.io/list-of-update-sites/. Anything on this list can be installed from Fiji by opening the updater, clicking <code>Manage update sites</code> and clicking the check mark of the list entry.
